Principal’s Message, Term 4, Week 9

Kia ora koutou,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Not long until the summer holiday begins and we all get to spend time with family and friends.

This week we have our Year 8 graduation on Friday evening, please be at Waiopehu College at 6:40 pm. Graduation will begin at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to farewell our Year 8 students.

In the interests of safety, when we use the Fairfield gates to come and go from school can we ensure they are closed behind us. A lot of our junior students are at that end of the school. I want to make sure they are safely on the school side of the gates. Thank you for your continued support.

The last day of school for this year is Wednesday, 18 December, all students will be released from school at 12:30 pm. Then, let the summer fun begin!

William Pike Students

The William Pike students completed their challenges for the year. Last week they had their graduation. All students demonstrated positive attitudes and strength of character to complete the challenges. One the challenges they completed was the longest day challenge.  The day started at 7 am with a walk over trig, followed by activities at Camp Makahika, a walk back over Trig and on to the swimming pools, some swimming, and a walk back to school.

School Donations

The Fairfield School Board of Trustees made a decision at their meeting  that we will be opting into the government’s donation scheme for 2020. This means that there will no longer be a recommended school donation and course contributions for things such as workbooks, day trips, or other compulsory curriculum resources.

Families will still need to make payment for trips that involve an overnight component.

Optional / extracurricular activities will remain as chargeable items. Families will need to make payment for the following:

•       Sports exchanges
•       Sports teams
•       School camps
•       School magazine
•       Cultural activities e.g. ShowQuest, RockQuest etc
