Principal’s Message Term 1, Week 3

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
The year is starting to get busy, as expected.  Our family picnic will be held on Thursday, 27th February from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm.  This will be a great time to meet with other parents, students and to talk to your child’s teachers while enjoying a meal together.  The school will be supplying some sausages, but please bring your meal.  We hope to see you there!
The sun is out in force at the moment!  For safety reasons, we ask that all students remember to pack their sun hats.  We don’t want anyone getting burnt, safety first.  If you need to purchase a hat these are available at the office, $10 each.
Adult Tutor Reading Programme

Fairfield School runs an adult tutor reading programme where parents/grandparents or wider whānau members volunteer their time to read with our students, individually.  This support provides invaluable reading time for our students as they receive one on one reading time with tutors.  We would be incredibly grateful if you have a free hour, once a week, to support our students.  If you are interested please contact Yvonne Nicholson ph 368 5513, email

School Gala

Planning is well underway with just over 3 weeks to go!  Keep those helper forms coming in to the office, and a big thank you to those who have already returned their forms.  We can’t have a successful gala without your help, and as you can imagine there is plenty of work to do.  Flyers for mail drops will be available this week, collected from the office.

Dates to remember:
  • Next Gala Meeting – This Thursday, 20th Feb 7pm, staffroom.
  • Gala Working Bee – Saturday 7th March 10am.
  • Gala 11th March 5pm – 7pm.

Last week the following sports began; water polo, cricket.  Payments are due now.  Shortly notices will be sent out regarding Summer 7’s Football and Netball.  For more information check out our sports noticeboard by the school office, or visit the school website/sports page.

We have recently updated our computer system with a great addition.  This now means we can now notify our families by email/text of upcoming events, sports etc, with the ability to reply with an electronic signature, this is a great way of ensuring everyone is aware of upcoming events, and with a click of a button you can register your child.  I will update you more on this shortly.

Updating Contact Details/Medical Records

We are currently updating our records to ensure all contact details on file are up-to-date.  This week all students will bring home a form for you to check/update and return to the office/teacher urgently.  Please also let us know if your child has medication they may require during school hours e.g asthma inhalers, antibiotics.
