Principal’s Message, Week 8, Term 4

Tena Koutou,

The 2020 school year is almost finished. It certainly has been a different year to most!

It was wonderful to see so many parents come to visit their child’s 2021 classrooms yesterday. The transition from 2020 to 2021 is important so children feel comfortable about where they are going to be and confident to begin the new school year.

Sports Academy
Thinking ahead to 2021 the school is going to introduce a new initiative, a Sports Academy. This is an exciting opportunity we hope will attract the community and students who are very keen on sports at school. We are looking for adults that have played or coached sports at a representative level to support the academy. They don’t necessarily need to be a part of our school community, but would be willing to support the coaching of our elite sports students at Fairfield School. If you would like to be involved in the planning of this, please contact me before the end of this school year.

Bullrush
Fairfield School and Levin East are bringing back bullrush (Year 5/6 initially) – a throwback to the 1980’s. The game will be held at 1pm at Levin East school on Monday, 7th December. I am hoping, if this is successful, we can establish a competition amongst schools across Levin next year.

Well done to all the parents who participated in Puna Oho’s cross country fun run recently. We had a wonderful turn out on the day.

Sports uniforms Please return these (washed) to the office by Monday 7th December.

Check out the Nature Area
I would like to say thank you to Evan Hicks from Recreational Services for volunteering and organising the clean up of the nature area last weekend. Thank you to those who were able to help on the day. Some great pictures below of Ella and Olivia helping dad. They did a fantastic job for the children to enjoy the area, make sure to check it out.

Parking at School
I understand in the mornings and afternoons picking up your children from school can be a stressful process with the lack of parks available, and trying to get to and from work on time. Please make sure you are not illegally parking. As mentioned before, I have received a number of complaints from the neighbours because their driveways are blocked. There have been a number of cars also parking in the school bus bay, blocking bus entry. Illegal parking has become a problem at school mainly when the buses are leaving/returning from school trips, so please do not park in the bus bay. I want to make sure our students are safe and can exit the bus on the sidewalk and not onto a busy road. The police have visited the school and reviewed the situation and have asked us to provide car registration details of any vehicle illegally parked so we appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this.

Kind regards
Alasdair Maclean
